Stories of Old

I stumbled upon the Libray of Congress' photostream on flickr. I could spend days looking through these pictures. I was surprised to find out that the Istanbul (Constantinople) pictures, especially #2 and #3, are photochrom and not photographs (more about photochroms).

Turkey between 1890-1900

School in New York between 1910 - 1915

Show Me

Sing me no song! Read me no rhyme!
Don't waste my time, Show me!

Eliza Doolittle sings these imperatives to Freddy in My Fair Lady. She is talking about romantic love and is frustrated with the words and the unrequited love from Professor Higgins. Romance aside, these lyrics seem fitting for the mass posts, statuses, websites, articles, essays, etc. acknowledging this world's problems, the pain and the hurt. Words are powerful. But words are not enough.

Please don't "expl'ine," Show me! Show me!
Don't wait until wrinkles and lines
Pop out all over my brow,

Show me now!
